Joanna Dunlap

Reno, Nevada
Joanna Sherlyn Dunlap (she/they) is a Creature of Creativity. A proud queer woman, her nonstop pursuits include singing (at church, with the Nevada Gay Men’s Chorus, and in her solo pursuits under the name Sherlyn), songwriting, script writing, theatrical directing, puppetry, sewing, cosplay, historical reenacting at renaissance faires, dungeons and dragons, helping to run myriad events for her local fan/pop-culture-celebration club “Great Basin Geeks,” and about twelve other creative activities that she hasn’t discovered yet. How does she still find time to play video games, watch television and movies, and read comics and books while doing all these things and holding down a couple of day jobs as a director, educator, and sign language interpreter? She gets at least six hours of sleep every night, she promises! Truth is, these things give her life meaning. She is most happy and at peace when she is consuming or creating art. And it has helped her find lasting friendships, deep relationships, and communities to be a part of. Joanna’s desire is to use her art to help make the world a more loving place for people in marginalized communities that may have less access to certain privileges. Art doesn’t only make the world go round, art makes the world. And Joanna is happy to be a part of that.
