When Eric Heisserer was nominated for an Academy Award for writing the hit film Arrival, he became something rare: an Oscar-nominated comic book writer. In addition to penning the upcoming film adaptations of Valiant Entertainment's Harbinger and Bloodshot comic book series, Heisserer is also writing the publisher's new superhero title Secret Weapons. Vulture staff writer Abraham Riesman sits down with Heisserer for a conversation about his career in film and comics, as well as the impending launch of the Valiant cinematic universe.
